Finding services for your child with special needs can be challenging. But, if you live in Detroit, there are various programs and resources nearby to help your child with autism spectrum disorder and other special needs, which we’ve listed here. Also included in this list are various programs offering occupational therapy for special needs children – and other services like counseling, therapy and mental health services in Detroit, Michigan.

Futures Health Core, LLC

This group offers speech, physical and occupational therapy, nutrition assessment, applied behavioral analysis under direction of certified BCBA and more for those ages 0-18.

Judson Center’s Autism Connections

Therapeutic, behavioral and support services for kids with autism and their families. Includes intensive applied behavior analysis, counseling, social skills groups, facilitated play dyads, therapeutic summer programming, support for parents and siblings, and quarterly family fun events (mostly focused on ages 18 and younger). ASD diagnosis required for some services.

The Children’s Center of Wayne County’s Autism Services Program

  • Cost: Accepts a variety of health insurance plans; participates with Wayne County Medicaid.

Comprehensive diagnostic evaluations, behavioral health services and psychiatric care for families with a child with autism. Includes a parent clinical interview, observational assessment, adaptive behavior assessment, neuropsychological, cognitive and developmental assessment, and parent feedback with recommendations. Intervention includes applied behavior analysis, behavioral therapy help, parent education and training, parent-child interaction therapy, social skills groups and toilet training. For kids diagnosed with autism, 18 months-18 years.

The Detroit Institute for Children

  • Cost: Contact for details; Provides contracted special health needs services to public and charter schools, Head Start and Early Start programs.

Services include speech and language pathology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology and social work. Services include assessment and evaluation, treatment, consultation, staff/teacher in-services and parent/community workshops.

If you live in Wayne County, check out this organization’s 40 programs, including mental and behavioral health services. These services are for adults and children of all ages with emotional and behavioral challenges. Plus, you’ll find services for developmental disabilities and for children suspected as victims of abuse or neglect.
